What Is A HEPA Filter?

9/24/2021 (Permalink)

Why We Use HEPA Filters

You may have heard the term HEPA filter before, but do you know what it means? A HEPA filter is a type of pleated mechanical air filter that stands for High-Efficiency Particular Air Filter. Keep reading to learn how these filters work, how they are used, why they are used.

How HEPA Filters Work

HEPA filters are designed to trap 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles that are 0.3 microns or larger. Based on the ability of a filter to capture particles, it is given a MERV rating. MERV means Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. HEPA filters always have a MERV rating of 17 or higher. That means HEPA filters deliver air quality that is higher than hospital-level air quality.

How We Use HEPA Filters

HEPA filters can be used in air purifiers, face masks, airplanes, hospitals, cars, HVAC systems, and even vacuum cleaners. When SERVPRO of South Mecklenburg County uses HEPA filters, we use them in vacuums. After the restoration work is done, there can be drywall dust and other debris left behind, which is why we always follow up with a HEPA vacuum. When we vacuum, we ensure every surface is vacuumed so no dust is left behind.

Why We Use HEPA Filters

After a disaster, the restoration process can stir up dust, smoke, pollen, and other particles. These indoor pollutants can lead to bad smells and even allergies. But removing such small particles can be impossible with the average household vacuum, that is why we use professional HEPA vacuums. When we leave your Charlotte, NC, home, or business it should be free of those kinds of particles after we vacuum the entire affected area and ensure we left it like it never even happened.

Our priority is to make it "Like it never even happened." So if your Pineville, NC home or business has experienced a water or fire emergency, we will always be “Faster to Any Size Disaster”. So give us a call (704) 840-6112, day or night.
