Know the Signs of Frozen Pipes

Do you know the signs of frozen pipes? We have had uncommonly snowy winter weather in the Charlotte, NC area this year! Cold weather with freezing temperatures are something your pipes do not especially like. Whether you have a regular PVC pipe or the strongest material available for your pipes, freezing water may cause them to crack.

Some pipes are more likely to experience a crack than others, most commonly frozen pipes are:

  • Pipes that are exposed to cold air like outdoor hose spigots, sprinkler systems, and pool supply lines.
  • Water supply lines in unheated areas of the home like basements, crawlspaces, garages, attics and even kitchen cabinets.
  • Pipes that run against exterior walls with little or no insulation.

Are you noticing an increase in your water bill after low temperatures? You may have experienced a small crack in one of your pipes. We recommend contacting your plumber or the City of Charlotte Water office to investigate as soon as possible.

Did a cracked or leaking frozen pipe cause damage to your home of business? Please do not wait - call SERVPRO of South Mecklenburg County. We are Faster to any size disaster™.
